  17.              LAST enables you to review and resume the last work you've
  18.         done without having to remember filenames and directories.  It
  19.         quickly searches your disk for the files that you updated most
  20.         recently, and displays them in filedate order.  Its repertoire
  21.         includes:

  23.         File Viewer:  View ASCII and binary files; full-screen and split 
  24.                       screen; no size limits; displays current line/byte. 
  25.  
  26.         Text Search:  Search for a string of text in any file, directory, or 
  27.                       drive(s); choose the order in which to search the files. 
  28.  
  29.         Program    :  Start up an application program and load a selected file 
  30.         Launcher   :  into it; execute any .EXE, .COM, or .BAT file. 
  31.  
  32.         File Finder:  Superquick multiple-drive file locator; input any 
  33.                       drive(s), directory and filename. 
  34.  
  35.         Hard Disk  :  Move, rename, copy, delete and tag files; directory 
  36.         Manager    :  tree display with bytes usage; directory menu. 
  37.  
  38.         DOS Shell  :  Execute DOS commands; each command saved to disk for 
  39.                       subsequent retrieval; execute commands on tagged files. 
  40.  
  41.         Disk-wide  :  Sorts ALL files by date, name, and size; the default sort 
  42.         File Sorter:  by date displays the most recently modified file first.

  45.         INSTALLATION 
  46.         ============ 
  47.              To install LAST, copy all its files to a directory listed in 
  48.         the DOS search path.  For instance, if you have a directory named 
  49.         C:\UTIL where you put utility programs, type the following command: 
  50.  
  51.                    COPY A:\*.* C:\UTIL 
  52.  
  53.         (This assumes your floppy is in drive A:.  Use B: if appropriate.) 
  54.  
  55.              You can also choose to create your own directory.  If you do, 
  56.         include that directory in the search path.

  58.              If you're not sure where to put LAST, copy it to C:\DOS.

  64.         ============ 
  65.              The demo is a short introductory tour of LAST's main features. 
  66.         This is the quickest way to become familiar with LAST.  To begin 
  67.         the demo, type DEMO and press the <Enter> key. 
  68.

  70.         STARTUP 
  71.         ======= 
  72.              At the C: prompt, type LAST and press the <Enter> key. 
  73.         LAST will display its logo while it reads your disk.  It then 
  74.         displays a list of files in chronological order, the most 
  75.         recent file appearing first.  Many options are now available to you; 
  76.         the Help Screen summarizes these options.  Press H (or the F1 key) 
  77.         to see the Help Screen.  For detailed instructions, read the 
  78.         MANUAL.LAS file by pressing R.  The manual is fifteen pages 
  79.         long -- we suggest you print it out by typing the following 
  80.         command at the C: prompt:

  85.         SUGGESTED USES 
  86.         ============== 
  87.  
  88.         1.  Find a file when you don't remember its name.  All you need is 
  89.             the file's approximate date, or a portion of text within it. 
  90.  
  91.         2.  Find a file when you don't remember its drive or directory but 
  92.             do know its name or part of its name.  Unlike most "WHEREIS" 
  93.             programs, LAST will not return to the C: prompt.  Instead you 
  94.             can perform viewing, searching, sorting, copying, etc. on any 
  95.             files found. 
  96.  
  97.         3.  Load a selected file into your word processor, spreadsheet, 
  98.             or other application program. 
  99.  
  100.         4.  Load a selected file into Microsoft Windows(tm).  Windows(tm) 
  101.             will determine which application created the file, open that 
  102.             application program, and load the file. 
  103.  
  104.         5.  Maneuver around your hard disk easily using LAST's directory menu. 
  105.  
  106.         6.  Select any directory or subdirectory by typing its name without 
  107.             its drive or parent directory. 
  108.  
  109.         7.  Copy the day's work to a floppy disk. 
  110.  
  111.         8.  Find out how many files have changed since the last full backup, 
  112.             and how many megabytes they occupy. 
  113.  
  114.         9.  Use LAST as a replacement for the DOS DIR command.

  120.         REGISTRATION 
  121.         ============ 
  122.              LAST is the last navigational tool you'll need for your PC. 
  123.         It is feature-rich, easy to learn, and simple to operate. 
  124.  
  125.              LAST is a user supported (shareware) product.  It is not 
  126.         public domain, nor is it free software.  You may use this 
  127.         product during a 30-day trial period without obligation.  If you 
  128.         use LAST after the trial period, you must register by sending $25 
  129.         to Integrated Consulting, PO Box 1613, San Juan Cap, CA  92693.

  131.              To print an order form:  after changing to the directory where 
  132.         you installed LAST, type REGISTER at the DOS prompt.

  135.         of the latest version of LAST and (2) update notices.  All users

  163.              The maximum number of directories is 512.

  165.              The maximum number of files depends on the amount of 
  166.         available RAM.   12,500 files fit in 600K; 10,000 fit in 500K.
